The Fairy Queen - Peony Wedding Dress Design by Claire Pettibone

The Fairy Queen

Faeries have always had a hold on me. When I was a little girl, I would spend hours by a creek that ran through the forest near our home, a place where everything felt alive. Moss softened the edges of fallen trees, light filtered through the leaves, and it was easy to imagine another world that could only be seen in stillness. I made fairies out of flowers, arranging petals into tiny gowns, and built hideaways for them amoung the branches. It never felt like make-believe, more like discovering something that was already there. Over time, life shifts, as it does. We grow up, we move on, and the world becomes more complex. But that sense of wonder has never left me. It returns often in my life as a wedding dress designer, in the embroidery, in the drape of a silhouette, in the quiet, almost otherworldly feeling a gown can hold, and in the brides themselves.

The Fairy Bride

There is a certain kind of bride who is drawn to this realm. She follows her feelings instead of trends, and listens to her own instincts instead of other's expectations. She may not always have the words for it, but she knows the feeling. A quiet pull toward beauty, toward nature, toward something more poetic than traditional, to details that feel organic and lyrical. She doesn’t want to look like anyone else. She wants to feel like herself, or the most beautiful, expressive version of herself. These are the brides who speak of “forest fairy” or “something ethereal, who are searching not just for a dress, but for a feeling. And while they may arrive with a single idea in mind, what they often discover is something more layered. Because just like the fae, there is no single way to be a bride. And like the fairies I imagined as a child, she is not just one thing. She may be a garden fairy, a creature of the forest, or a nocturnal fae lit by moonlight. Each one drawn to magic.

The Flower Fairy

Peony, Meadowsweet, Fujiblossom

Our flower fairy is utterly romantic at heart, drawn to flowers in all their forms. There is a softness to her, but also a quiet vitality, as if she carries the energy of something always growing, always in bloom. There is nothing forced about her beauty, and she wants her wedding dress to feel effortless and entirely her own. Gowns like Peony, Meadowsweet, and Fujiblossom capture this spirit. These weddings are at home in gardens and open meadows, and in the gentle warmth of sunlight.

Peony, a colorful wedding dress with delicate floral embroidery, features a softly fitted silhouette with a romantic sweetheart neckline, and her namesake peonies blooming along the bodice and trailing down the train. Shown with our Les Fleurs cape sleeves (and some fantasy fairy wings) she really does inspire a belief in another realm

Meadowsweet offers a flowing A-line skirt. Light and airy, with the wildflowers of a meadow brought to life in buttercups, coneflowers, dandelions, and yarrow. Off-the-shoulder long sleeves and a softly structured lace bodice complement this flowing garden of pink, yellow, and ivory blossoms along sage green stems.

Fujiblossom is adorned with embroidered wisteria blossoms, the petals drifting down the silhouette in the most fragrant shade of lilac, as if caught mid-fall in a spring breeze. Our garden fairy brides don’t just wear flowers, they embody their essence with an ethereal, breathtaking beauty.

The Woodland Fairy

Soleil, Primavera, Chrysalis

The woodland fairy belongs to the forest, where light and shadow live side by side. There is a quiet depth to our forest fairy, and a touch of mischief as she moves through hidden paths and ancient trees, delighting those who cross her path. She is drawn to transformation, to the way the forest is always shifting, its light filtering through branches, new growth emerging, something unseen just beneath the surface. Gowns like Soleil, Primavera, and Chrysalis reflect this layered beauty.

Soleil was inspired by sunlight shimmering through the trees, at that perfect hour when beams of light appear and reveal another dimension, like golden fairy dust suspended in the air. The French embroidered tulle captures this effect, scattered with light in a way that feels quietly magical on the illusion neckline, flutter sleeves and low, open back. This golden wedding gown is often "the one" for our forest fairy brides.

Primavera feels like the forest in bloom, fresh and alive, with delicate details unfolding like new growth in spring. Long sheer sleeves, a floral embroidered bodice in shades of sage, rose and champagne, this dress is both intricate and effortless. Shown here with our Enchanted Rose Cape, she brings the forest to life.

Chrysalis speaks of transformation, a moment of becoming, where texture and movement echo the quiet evolution found in nature. Hand-tinted lace butterflies, blue blossoms with little green leaves embroidered on French lace, and a touch of sunlit sparkle. Our bride is a part of all of it, moving through light and shadow, always becoming.

The Heirloom Fairy

Quill, Arbor, Victoriana

She is drawn to beauty that feels enduring, pieces that carry a sense of history and will be treasured long after. There is a quiet reverence in the way she sees the world, a love of detail, of craftsmanship, of pieces that hold meaning and memory. Her romance is not fleeting, but lasting, rooted in artistry and intention. Gowns like Quill, Arbor, and Victoriana reflect this sensibility.

Quill is crafted from the finest lace from the French house of Solstiss, delicate and refined, with an intricacy that feels both rare and timeless. And underneath this lace, is a gorgeous ombre of silk. Shown in a blend from silk white into Lilac, we can customize the colors for our brides from something blue, to a pale peach, dusty rose or sage green.

Arbor features a distinctive cotton Leavers lace with a subtle stripe and floral motif, an unexpected composition that feels at once antique and modern. The ruffled train creates beautiful movement, a soft cascade that feels perfectly at home walking down nature’s aisle.

Victoriana is embellished with guipure lace, its dappled texture and elaborate border creating movement and depth, a gown that feels as though it could be discovered in an antique trunk, perfectly preserved. She doesn’t follow trends. She is drawn to what feels meaningful, to pieces that tell a story, and become part of her own.

The Moonlight Fairy

Lunaria & Midnight

Of course, fairies are not only flowers and sweetness, they hold the darkness too. Drawn to the night, to that quiet, in-between space where everything feels more intimate and ephemeral. There is a sense of mystery about her, a depth of feeling that lingers just beneath the surface. She moves easily between shadow and light, expressive and intuitive, as if guided by something unseen. Gowns like Lunaria and Midnight embody this mood.

Lunaria is a black wedding dress that moves between the last light of twilight and the depth of night. Lavender petals are softly illuminated as if touched by moonlight, and pearl drops gently drip from the shoulders and along the blossoms of its softly structured mermaid silhouette. She is a midnight garden in full bloom ready to cast her spell.

Midnight holds all the mystery of this bewitching hour, with platinum silk, gilded gold and dusty rose embroidery, and a dramatic black tulle train finished with a silk rose, she is every bit the heroine. Our dark fairies linger like a dream long after the night has passed.

The Fairy Queen

The other day, I declared myself the fairy queen, and then laughed, because it sounds a bit pretentious, but it’s kind of true. What began in my childhood imagination has become my life’s work, designing magical wedding dresses for beautiful brides. I love creating for these women, the flower fairies, the forest fairies, those drawn to light, and those who find beauty in the night. There is something deeply meaningful in recognizing a feeling they may not yet have words for, and bringing it to life. This is the magic I return to, and the one I am honored to share.

Whether you are a garden fairy or a creature of the woods, your magic is waiting to be found. Schedule your appointment at our Los Angeles or New York salons to experience these gowns in person.
