La Scala Bridal Boudoir Robe by Claire Pettibone

An Heirloom in the Making

There was a moment, early on, that shaped how I would see beauty. When my family moved to upstate New York, we discovered that our home had once belonged to a woman who lived there decades before. In the 1920s, she was young and stylish, and she left behind traces of her life in the attic: beaded gowns, delicate purses, and photo albums filled with another time. As a child, it felt like uncovering a hidden world. Something refined, feminine, and quietly glamorous. A sense that beauty could hold memory, and that what we wear can become part of a story that lingers long after the moment has passed.

The Art of the Bridal Trousseau

That feeling never left me. It was where my love of lingerie began, and the desire to create pieces that feel like something discovered, rather than something new. Today, that idea lives on in our Heirloom Lingerie collection, a series of bridal robes, lace kimonos, and intimate pieces designed for the wedding morning, the honeymoon, and all those moments when slowness and beauty inspire us to pause.

Rare French Lace & Reimagined Silhouettes

Over the years, I’ve collected so many extraordinary fabrics. Pieces of lace and embroidery created for wedding gowns and veils, each one chosen with intention, and often impossible to replace. Recently, I found myself drawn to a group of French stretch laces tucked away in our atelier. Some date back to my early days as a lingerie designer, and rediscovering them, I had the sense that they had been waiting. Too special to remain on a shelf, and too beautiful to waste, they became the starting point for this new chapter of Heirloom Lingerie. A collection of bridal lingerie, boudoir robes, and lace kimonos shaped by what already existed, reimagined for this moment. Each piece carries its own expression. A softly embroidered chemise, a lace kimono that moves with ease, a sweeping boudoir robe with a train that lingers behind you. Pieces like Antoinette, with its rare French lace and delicate leafwork, or Marie, where hand-beaded pearls are hidden within the embroidery, reveal their beauty slowly, over time.

The Intimacy of the Wedding Morning

There is something about the moments before the wedding ceremony that feels almost suspended in time. The bride, surrounded by the women she loves, her mother, her sisters, her closest friends. There is a quiet rhythm to it. Hair and makeup, laughter, small details being adjusted, and underneath it all, a sense of anticipation. It is not the spectacle of the wedding itself, but something softer, more intimate. A moment of gathering, of support, sometimes tears, and always love. A lace robe like Cara is a classic for bride or mom, and the Pearle beaded knee-length kimono would be a gorgeous gift for those closest to the bride.

I’ve always felt that what we wear in these moments matters. When I design these pieces, I think about how a woman will feel when she puts them on. Not just beautiful, but ready, in a quiet and confident way, for whatever the day holds. These are pieces meant for the wedding morning, but also for so much more. A romantic evening at home. A quiet Sunday. A moment of self-care, chosen simply because it feels good to slow down and surround yourself with something beautiful. Whether it's Maia for a spring or summer touch of vibrant garden florals, La Boheme for layering underneath, or Bella for a stunning boudoir moment.

An heirloom is more than just a beautiful object. It’s something that has been loved. Something that holds a memory. Something you can feel. I felt it when five-year-old me discovered that woman’s dresses in the attic. Over time, the things we wear begin to carry the stories of our lives. The emotion of a first kiss, the feeling of a wedding day, the rituals we return to. Somehow, all of those feelings and memories become part of the object itself, and these possessions begin to hold something deeper. That’s what I hope these pieces will become for you. Not just something worn once, but something kept, returned to, and one day, maybe passed on to someone who will think of you and your stories.

I often think about where these pieces will go after the wedding day has passed. Promise or Toscana worn again for an anniversary, or on a quiet Sunday morning, when there is nowhere else to be, and you simply want to feel beautiful in your own skin. Seraphine or Magnolia for boudoir portraits during a first pregnancy. Lingerie sets like Aberdeen or Bellaire for moments when you want to return to that feeling of love, or simply create a new memory. A favorite robe, a delicate set of lingerie, something familiar that feels both comforting and quietly transformative. And sometimes, they are chosen as gifts. For a mother, a daughter, a sister, or a dear friend. A way of saying, this moment matters, and so do you.

I think back to that woman whose things I discovered as a child. The life she lived, the beauty she surrounded herself with, the pieces she left behind. There was something held in them that stayed with me even without knowing her. Her left-behind heirlooms had such an impact on me, that they helped shape the designer I am today. It is my hope that what we create in our atelier carries that same sense of meaning. That these pieces will be worn, loved, and remembered; becoming part of a life, and one day, perhaps, a memory discovered by someone else.
