Nikki + Ian
For Nikki Reed’s wedding to Ian Somerhalder, her custom wedding dress began with the fabric of Chantilly, the silhouette of Elizabeth, and added details of ¾ sleeves and a high neckline to contrast with the plunging back. Here’s an excerpt from Claire’s interview with People magazine:
If you're anything like us, then you're still reeling from Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder's picturesque California wedding. More importantly, you're still obsessing over Reed's unbelievably romantic lace Claire Pettibone dress. And Pettibone herself opened up about the design process and working with the former Twilight star for her big day.
"From the moment we met, we had a great rapport, and it was so easy designing for her!" Pettibone told People of designing a custom gown for the new Mrs. Somerhalder. "Once she spotted the Chantilly beaded vintage lace gown, it was just a matter of customizing the design for her. She knew she wanted three quarter-length sleeves, and we created a sheer lace illusion neckline. Since she wasn't going to wear a veil, I suggested adding a bit more drama to the train by adding a lace-edged tulle layer to the skirt."
The most important consideration the actress made while working with Pettibone, though? What her hunky Vampire Diaries soon-to-be husband would think of the dress. "Nikki really kept Ian in mind as we chose her gown, and she knew he would love the low, sexy back of this dress," Pettibone added of the design process. "He was so excited for his bride, and called or texted her during every fitting! She wouldn't tell him any details, because she wanted him to be surprised on the big day."
And although she was an A-list bride, Reed was the complete opposite of a diva. "Nikki was always laughing and relaxed at her fittings. She was actually one of the easiest, most non-stressed brides I've designed for!" Pettibone continued. "I'm just so happy for her and Ian. They are perfect together, and you can see how much they adore each other."
