We're coming up on this sweet couple's one year Anniversary, so I just had to share this beautiful summer wedding captured by Hjellen Photo Co.. When you think effortless romantic and fun, these two really nailed it! From Kelly's custom Ophelia gown, to the orange VW bus and all the bohemian chic details, their wedding is infused with personal touches and must have been so fun for their friends and family to experience. Seeing this album, I feel like I was right there with them! This couple took some time before the ceremony not only for a first look, but also to read their vows to each other...what a special way to express their love in private and maybe even help each other calm those pre-game jitters. A few moments together underneath dappled sunlight to just be together, and then they're ready to join their loved ones. As Kelly shared with us, "I couldn't have felt more beautiful in your dress. It was such a gift and I will cherish it forever. My husband was speechless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart." Ah, Kelly, it was a pleasure, and thank YOU for sharing your wedding with us!
Of course for us, it all starts with the dress. Kelly came to see us here at The Castle, and she fell in love with Ophelia. She loved the soft pastel flowers, the gold lace, the romantic silhouette and flowy skirt leading to a cathedral length train. The only thing was, she didn't want a strapless gown. Easy! I just designed a delicate strap using the gold eyelash lace with scalloped edges trailing along the neckline and shoulders, and her dream dress appeared! This floral gown has touches of lavender, pale blue, buttercup yellow and soft minty greens. The antique gold lace layered underneath, along with a floating layer of ecru chiffon lends a vintage touch to the pastels, which were a perfect pairing with the end-of-summer vibes of rust and sage florals and woodsy details in this rustic chic wedding. I have to admit I have a soft spot for my brides who choose to incorporate color into their gowns. And I love the variety of styling options...she chose to contrast her gown with almost fall florals by Petals De Amor, and picked up some of the tones from her dress for her bridesmaids. I often suggest that my brides select a color palette, and then have your squad choose different dresses. The result is a modern, super flattering, and chic combination.
And after the vows under the oaks and dappled light of this Topanga, California venue, The 1909, it's time to party! Our sweet bride wore tennis shoes the whole time, so she was ready for dancing! With a long wedding dress, the reality is, your shoes won't really show much, so go with what feels right to you. Some of our brides love a fancy high heel and/or just want to be a little taller. Some go for flats, hiking boots, or even start with one and change into another. For Kelly's laid-back Topanga vibe, comfort was a priority, and these bridal sneakers show her playful side. Throw in a hand-crafted cocktail bar, a donut tower cake, and an after hours silent disco...this party planned by Zoen Events looks like a blast! As day turned into night, and noise restriction hour arrived (which is the case with many outdoor venues) no reason to stop the fun, just have your guests put those headphones on, and let it go! Happy Anniversary you two! I hope you have a chance to dance the night away and remember your beautiful wedding for MANY years to come.
