Claire  is very honored to be included among 30 designers from around the world featured in the newly released book, Contemporary Lingerie Design, by Katie Dominy and published by Laurence King.

In interviews with the designers, and through 300 color illustrations, author and trend expert, Dominy, reveals the process and influences that shape the color, silhouettes and detail of each designer piece. Designers share how diverse inspirations such as 1930s Berlin, childhood ballet lessons, or the French cinema have influenced their work.

Claire discusses styling, favorite designs and the global market of lingerie, including the introduction of her designer collection in the 1990s. “At the time we launched our business,” says Pettibone in the book, “European lingerie was very special but extremely expensive once imported to the U.S. Most American companies were producing very bland, utilitarian products. I wanted to offer an exquisite, vintage-inspired collection to the American market. I reintroduced many of the lost techniques (such as handmade ribbon flowers and vintage lace patterns) that I’d found on antique pieces, but updated them for the modern woman.”

Dominy discusses how the trend towards lingerie designers being based outside of the traditional fashion capitals will evolve as fashion finds new hotspots and enthusiastic markets worldwide. “We make everything in Los Angeles,” says Pettibone who is based  there. “We take great pride in being one of the few companies to support our local economy and still have things made in the U.S..”

Collection: Rock n Roll Bride // Dress: Romantique

I just love the photos sent in by Kate Jett, a beautiful bride who wore Romantique from my Rock ‘n Roll Bride collection. Isn’t she dreamy? Her sleeve tattoo is absolutely gorgeous and plays so beautifully against the blooming flowers scattered over the cotton embroidered dress – and all this up against a field of green. Now that’s what I love – pairing romance with an edge. I like to say she embodies the collection… but really, she “expresses” herself…and makes Romantique all the more beautiful. Kate, we feel cheated too, that you can only wear it the one time… (so if you want to put it on again, we won’t tell!)

I just wanted to write and thank you so much for the amazing dress you made for me. It was the Romantique in June. The dress was stunning, I feel cheated that I’m only allowed to wear it that one time.

I’m a wedding floral designer and I thought my flowers and decor would be the most important thing to me about my wedding, but that dress turned out to be one of my favorite things about the day. It was the best decision to get your dress. I received sooo many wonderful compliments on it too. Thank you thank you.
