As some of you may have noticed, I’ve been spending a bit more time at my Flagship Salon lately…training the lovely Erica, doing a bit of sprucing up, and keeping in touch with my ever-amazing, gorgeous brides!

The first weekend in March we’re all in for an extra special treat…make that treats!!! It’s Trunk Show time, so yes, the entire collection will be here, but to add even more loveliness, we have beautiful flowers, scrumptious sweets, and custom scents! I’m putting the finishing touches on our signature Beau Monde fragrance that you will all receive, along with the opportunity to design your own! Plus, we just had One Hope Wine say they want to join us with sparkling wine for all, so now we can really get our party started!

It’s been a busy Trunk Show spring season, and we’re bringing it home to our Flagship May 6^th – 7^th. I’ll be styling and advising all of our lovelies, helping guide them to “the one” that perfectly enhances each individual’s beauty and grace, and speaks to her heart. I ADORE creating wedding gowns, and when I see how much joy my work brings to others, it really takes it to another level and makes my life as a designer that much sweeter. So, joining in all of this beauty and celebration, we have some AMAZING treats for our Beverly Hills girls!

Did someone say cake?! If you are a sweet tooth like our Flagship Manager Cynthia and I, it’s always time for cake! And of course, what is a wedding without flowers? Peony and Plum, represented by The Bridal Bar, has festooned many of our brides with unique and gorgeous floral bouquets and décor. A true artist, Susan Tom-Nellis and her team create floral stories that perfectly compliment your gown and incorporate nature’s gifts into your wedding.

It all begins with the dress…but just like a cake with no frosting, it’s in the final embellishments, the veil, the headpiece, the jewelry, that the full story is told. I love that moment…you’ve found the perfect gown that looks so beautiful and says all you want to say about who you are, and what this day means…and then, we add an antique veil, or a jeweled headpiece, and that’s when it really sinks in…you’re getting married, and the tears come.

I think it’s that culmination of beauty and joy amidst all of the nervousness and high expectations that cause this slightly overwhelming sensation. Once you see yourself as you are going to look on this day (of course even better with hair, make-up and a perfectly fitting gown!) it all comes into focus and you come back to the real reason you’ve been going through all this…why you’ve tried on so many dresses and have a binder full of swatches and tear-sheets and guest lists and menus…you have fallen in love with someone truly special, and are going to pledge your devotion and share your life.

This part of my job really is the “icing on the cake”. I absolutely love designing gowns. I love the fabrics, the flowers, the lace, the details, everything! But when I see those tears of joy and know that I have helped make a bride not only look breathtakingly beautiful, but that my work has actually touched her soul…well, it doesn’t get any better.

During an amazing dinner during market week a year ago, who knew I was looking at the venue for this year’s runway show? It must have worked its way into my subconscious as inspiration often does, and once the designs began to take shape, Buddakan NYC was really the only place for my “Cherry Blossom” collection to make its debut. A perfect mix of modern Asian fusion, the chic use of color and dramatic lighting created a magical setting for my fanciful walk through the cherry blossoms.

Here’s a sneak peak at the backstage beauty which began with my favorite skin care line, Arcona. Triad Pads cleanse, tone and hydrate, infusing skin with protective antioxidants (I use them pre and post workout), and Magic White Ice moisturizes and preps the skin for flawless make-up.

The amazing team from Stila led by the beautiful Sarah Lucero created the look: A hint of Asian inspiration with a fresh, pretty palette. Rosy cheeks and lips stained with Cherry Crush, and a glamorous eye using black Smudge Pot liner on the top lid only, lilac shadow (from my soon-to-be-released limited edition Stila Loves Claire Pettibone Palette!) under the lower lashes, set off with subtle sparkle on the lids. The girls had a soft innocence with a dose of sophistication…perfect for wedding day, or any day!

Celebrity hair stylist Tippi Shorter and her team created graceful twisted knots for our up-do’s with straight short bangs. Ojon hair products keep the hair nourished and add a great shine, while flat irons from Smart Heat effortlessly turn any frizz into soft sleek tresses. I loved how this look worked on all the girls and gave a consistency to the show.

Once hair and make-up are in place, it’s time to get dressed, and of course fabulous shoes from Kathryn Amberleigh finish the look. I introduced some cherry pink pops of color to go with a few of the gowns, in addition to ivory and antique gold. This NYC based husband and wife team create some really cool classic looks with a twist.

We had one model M.I.A. which added a bit of last minute stress to our backstage frenzy, but what is a fashion show without drama?! We scrambled to put her dress on another girl for a quick change, and in the end, it all worked out! Just like a wedding day, there may be things that don’t go according to plan…just take a deep breath, smile, and remember what the day is all about.

Ready with my girls in the line-up as a few last minute guests take their seats out front. The music starts, the lights come up, and it’s show time! See you soon with Cherry Blossom 2010.
