There is always beauty within the mist of chaos that ensues backstage. The art of make-up and hair flowing in unison with gorgeous models as they line up before the show. We invite you to take a glimpse at the first few moments before the magic is revealed…

Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors for helping us create the most enchanting evening yet. Janice Kinjo for her skilled make-up artistry, Tippi Shorter , celebrity hair stylist, for turning our models into fairies, Lucid for the evening spirits, Nine Cakes for their delicious cupcakes, the FIT interns for their helpful hands backstage, Smashbox, Ole Henriksen, Ojon and Smartheat for their wonderful gifts, and of course a big thank you to our beautiful pixie hostesses and runway models for the show!
It is also a huge honor to introduce Enchanted Atelier for Claire Pettibone, the perfect jeweled head pieces shown with our Spring 2011 bridal gowns.
We’re currently working on getting runway photos up online, by next week the latest. In the meantime, please take a look at our friend Miha Matei’s blog for more backstage magic.
Continuing our journey through the lands of the fae, we find ourselves mystified by the magic imbued in each dress. Jewels of whimsy that frolic about the rays of the sun and moon. Floating wisps of silver tumbling with regal accents of gold. Streams of silk with glimmers of opalescent petals. As the woodland songs grow clearer, won’t you embrace the lull of the fairy realms?
“It was a joy to revisit the effervescent creatures that inspired this season’s collection.
Luminescent wings, drops of dew on a rose, the colorful glow of the sun dissolving into the moon. Glittering sequins, beads, pearls and crystals dazzle and sparkle. An ethereal wedding gown in moon-lit gold and spun silver, shimmers between reality and another world. Night settles in the forest, the moon rises, and the fairies come out to dance and play.” – Claire Pettibone

I can’t remember a time before fairies. I would play for hours in the meadows and streams of my childhood, making dresses of leaves and petals for the sprites I imagined lived in the woods. One of my favorite childhood books was called The Fairy Circus, written in 1933. It had been my grandmother’s, then my mother’s, and now I am sharing it with my little Lorelei. The gorgeous illustrations of the fairy queen seemed so magical and luminous…just the way I imagine a bride to be on her wedding day.
There is one week left til our bridal runway show in New York and we are unable to keep our excitement inside the design studio anymore! From now til the day of the show, we are sharing a few of Claire’s inspiration and behind the scene photos.
Expect to see enchanting colors on the runway as our Spring 2011 theme is inspired by mystical fairies!
